Clean the Green River Festival

Amazing! That sums up the thoughts about the Green River clean up held July 24th in Greensburg, Kentucky.

Over 100 dedicated volunteers from various areas of the state showed up on a hot July day to “Clean the Green!” Collectively, participants covered about 10 stream miles, removing an estimated 2 ½ tons of trash, and 100 tires from our beloved Green River!

After the cleanup, celebrations were held at the park where lunch was served amidst the sweet bluegrass sounds of “The Foster Children”. KWA's good friend, Dave Shuffett host of Kentucky Life, drew door prizes and Hyun Kim from Elizabethtown won the grand prize—a shiny new kayak! This was the first time he had ever been on a canoe, and stated that while he lost his camera and phone in the Green River, he got a kayak instead!

Special thanks to our additional supporters: Green River Paddle Trail, Big Buffalo Crossing, Nunn’s Excavating, IGA, Green Record Herald, Green County Fiscal Court, Replica Signs, The Cattlemen’s Association, Green County Auto Supply, Wal-Mart, Replica Signs, The Army Corps of Engineers, and ALL of the folks who came to "Clean the Green" making this a record cleanup.

Here’s to keeping the Green clean for future generations!
