Labor Day Red River Clean Up

September 2, 2019 @ 8:00 am2:30 pm

Labor Day Red River Clean Up

Join Friends of Red River on Labor Day, Monday 9/2, to clean a section of Red River downriver from Clay City and ending at Meadowgreen Music Park. Friends of Red River volunteers removed 192 tires and other garbage (3.2 tons total!) on 8/10 but we couldn’t get it all! There are still more tires and several dumpsites in this section of the Red River. We could really use your help!

Not able to participate in the clean up on the river but want to help? We need volunteers that can help by driving volunteers from Meadowgreen to launch site around 8:30am OR we need help unloading garbage at Meadowgreen at ~2pm. Another way to help is to share the event and help people know that dumping is not cool.

Timeline (subject to slight changes) and supplies list below.

8am – Check in a unload you personal boat at **site TBD**
8:15a – Drive personal vehicle to Meadowgreen Music Park so it will be waiting for you at the end of the paddle/clean up. Shuttle will bring volunteers back to launch site
8:50a – safety meeting
~9a- launch boats
~2 pm – off the water at Meadowgreen and unload garbage
~2:30 – Lunch provided for volunteers by Friends of Red River. Personal vehicles there and ready for you to go!

YOUR boat, paddles, personal flotation device
water and snacks
hat and sunscreen
clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting dirty, really dirty

Optional items to bring:
pry bar
knife and/or saw
hand sanitizer
change of clothes and/or towel for after clean up

Whether or not you have been on a Friends of Red River clean up before, we would love to have you! Please contact Laura Gregory if you have any questions of concerns.

**We do have a couple of extra kayaks available if you are interested, have boat experience, and would like to participate. Contact Laura Gregory at laura@kwalliance.org or (606) 359-0324.
